THE ECONOMIC STRUGGLES OF THE UNITED STATES DURING THE GREAT DEPRESSION
Rationale:
The three lessons incorporated within this learning unit have
a specific focus of teaching history through a unique array of hands on and student driven activities. All of the lessons center around United States history in the 1920's and 1930's, a time
period which has had an effect on United States society until this day. Each lesson uses an interdisciplinary format while still having a central focus upon history.
Each lesson creates a unique learning situation from which the students will best be able to grasp the information covered.
The most important aspect of this learning unit is to create a learning environment where the students can see the direct correlation between the history they study and the lives which
they live everyday. History is a living breathing entity and this unit helps to bring the Great Depression to life. By having these lessons be hands on, and constructing them with an
interdisciplinary structure, the students are able to see that history is not merely in the past but is all around them each and every day.
