Type of Lesson: Technology
Grade Level: 4-5
Lesson Objective: Students will use the Internet to facilitate the study of the Civil War.

Objectives: The student will be able to:
1. Create a time-line of events leading up to, and including the battles of, the Civil War.
2. Become an expert on one particular battle, by writing a one-page summary with important details about that battle. (To be decided upon with teacher).
3. Be able to answer questions about their battle.
4. Listen to Morse-code translations on the computer.
5. Use the Internet to locate resources related to the Civil War and incorporate information from these resources into their own writing.
6. Identify the qualities of exceptional leaders, regardless of their patriotic affiliation.
Activities:
1. Students will be allowed access to the computer for several days to gather information.
2. Students will choose a battle to focus on, with the consent of teacher.
3. Students will create a time-line.
4. Students will write a one-page summary of their battle.
5. Students will type a short paragraph into the computer about their battle. Another student will listen to the Morse-code website and translate.
6. Teacher will compile a list of battles and pertinent information with students’ input.
Lesson Closure: Technology will be used to enhance students learning about the Civil War.
Assessment:
Students will be given a written test on the battles, and leaders of
the Civil War.
