ON FREEDOM |
Freedom will break the tyrant's chains,
And shatter al his whole domain;
From slavery she will always free
And al ber aim is liberty.
George H. Allen, aged 12 years, Oct. 21st. 1828.
ON SLAVERY |
Slavery, oh, thou cruel stain,
Thou dos fill my heart with pain;
See my brother, here he stands
Chained by slavery's cruel hands.
Could we not feel a brother's woes.
Relieve the wants he undergoes,
Snatch him from slavery's cruel smart,
And to him freedom's joy impart?
George H. Allen, aged 12 years, Oct. 21st. 1828.
The above verses were composed and written by the boys who have signed them; George E. Allen was required to produce something on Slavery, either in prose or verse in half and hour. Thomas S. Sidney occupied one hour on freedom.
